Danielle’s Journey
My spouse and I both have fertility issues. My wife is male to female transgender and we figured she may have trouble conceiving. Upon further testing, we then found out I also have low AMH. We eventually decided to use a sperm donor and did four intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles, all of which were unsuccessful.
We then moved on to in vitro fertilization (IVF), and the first medicated cycle was a disaster. We retrieved 12 eggs, but the doctor confirmed none of them were fertilizing, and they were actually disintegrating.
Finally, one egg fertilized with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). It became a blastocyst after five days! We were so thankful. We transferred that embryo but unfortunately I didn’t get pregnant.
My doctor changed the treatment protocol for the next IVF cycle. We retrieved 15 eggs, seven of which were fertilized. In the end, we ended up with only one blastocyst again, but the doctor assured me that the new embryo got the highest grade an embryo can get and it was overall better quality than the last one.
We then transferred our one and only embryo, but this time I got pregnant!
I’m due to give birth in two weeks and we couldn’t be more excited.
